Financial Literacy and Renter’s Education (FLARE) is an 8-week workshop where participants and facilitators discuss the topics below:

What? Customized sessions tailored to help you:

  • Explore going back to school
  • Information on pursuing a training program
  • Explore GED options
  • Assistance with completing financial aid applications
  • Setting educational goals
  • Finding scholarships or local resources

EcSA (Economic Security for All)

EcSA is a 6-month program in partnership with Northwest Workforce Council and Community Action of Skagit County. Eligible participants receive career services from Northwest Workforce Council that include:

  • Supporting participants in finding a career that best fits their skillset
  • Prepping for an interview
  • Building a resume and cover letter
  • Assistance with job applications
  • Help in setting S.M.A.R.T goals

Eligible participants will participate in an 8-week financial education workshop hosted by Community Action of Skagit County. This workshop is designed to build knowledge and skills that support long-term financial stability and self-sufficiency. Topics include:

  • Budgeting
  • Renter’s Education
  • Money Habitudes
  • Impulse Buying
  • Credit
  • Debt Management
  • Savings
  • Financial Goals

Participants in this program will also be matched with a financial literacy mentor. Mentors are there to support, hear, and guide participants in setting and achieving their financial goals. Monthly participation with mentors is a requirement.

Thinking About Becoming a Mentor?

In the 8-week F.L.A.R.E. workshop, eligible EcSA participants are paired with a mentor who can walk alongside them as they work toward their financial goals. As a mentor, you’ll play a supportive role—offering encouragement, accountability, and guidance. What to expect as a mentor:

  • Participate in a Mentor Training Session (via Teams)
  • Attend F.L.A.R.E. Orientation (in-person)
  • Welcomed and encouraged to attend F.L.A.R.E. classes (via Teams)
  • Stay in touch with your mentee at least monthly by phone, email, or in person
  • Provide encouragement, guidance, and a listening ear
