Community Action is an essential service during COVID-19. More people are unemployed and face an uncertain future. You can give them hope. Our Food Distribution Center gets food to all open food banks. WIC is keeping kids healthy. Our shelter keeps homeless families safe. We are helping more people than ever before to pay their energy bills. Our Motel Voucher Program is housing vulnerable street homeless during this crisis. We need your help. Your gift helps us respond to the greatest need during changing, challenging times.
During COVID-19, neighbor helping neighbor is more important than ever. For safety, we’ve temporarily suspended most in-person volunteer opportunities. Sign up to be notified as soon as remote or in-person opportunities safely resume. We appreciate your commitment to this community and we can’t wait to work with you again once the public health crisis is over. Email VolunteerCenter@CommunityActionSkagit.org to get on our list. Meanwhile, if you want to help during this challenging time, please consider making a donation.
Families and individuals come to us needing items vital for health and life: food, toiletries, jackets, tents, sleeping bags. Normally, community members, churches, civic clubs and others generously donate items for us to give away. For safety of donors and clients, we now are purchasing what people need rather than accepting donated items. We also need to purchase new things, such as thermometers for shelter residents and street homeless to monitor their health. Your cash donation will be used for the greatest immediate needs.
Looking for other volunteer opportunities in the community? Check out our free service, the Skagit Volunteer Center, for volunteer opportunities with 160+ nonprofit organizations. At this time, only Essential Services should be operating volunteer programs. Note the COVID-19 guidelines for volunteers and organizations, to make sure you are volunteering in a way that protects your health and safety, as well as that of all other community members.
