January Topic: Advocacy

Description: Why is Community Action involved in public policy advocacy, and why might you want to become involved or increase your involvement? What has changed in the community because of local advocates for housing, food and solutions to homelessness?  What are some of the priorities emerging from Olympia this session, and how might we work together to influence them? In this Brunch and Learn, find out:
  • The biggest issues in the Washington State Legislature this year, and how to influence them.
  • 2024 WSCAP Legislative Priorities
  • Protecting LIHEAP funding and how you can help!
  • How people with lived experience are helping decision-makers understand poverty in Skagit County, and how policy and budget decisions impact peoples’ lives.
  • Why building positive relationships with elected officials over time can be one of our most effective ways of influencing public policy.
  • How you and YOUR organization can get involved, and even join one of our constituent meetings with representatives in the 10th, 39th, and 40th Districts.
About the Brunch & Learn:
Join us from 9-10 a.m. on the first Wednesday of each month for “Virtual Brunch & Learn with Community Action!” Back in “The Beforetimes”, Community Action hosted monthly Lunch & Learn sessions for our partners, volunteers, staff, donors and anyone else interested to: 1) Learn about a community need, 2) what the community is doing to solve it together, and 3) Community Action’s role. In 2024 we’ll look at hunger and food security, housing and homelessness, services for seniors and kids, and much more! Bring your coffee or tea and a snack to this virtual coffee break, and join us!
