Community Action’s Housing Program provides homeless families with shelter and housing and helps them become self-sufficient. Services are delivered through intensive one-on-one support that empowers families by giving them the tools, direction and resources to build on their own strengths.
The William J. Shuler Family Development Center consists of 10 shelter units located in Mount Vernon, where eligible homeless families may stay for a short period of time. Each unit is provided with essential utilities, furnishings, and household items.
Community Action Housing Specialists work with each family to plan for the future, access resources, create a household budget and savings plan, and take the necessary first steps toward their permanent home.
Each year, this program provides more than 40 families with safe, temporary shelter and assists them with their plans for future independence.
