Ribbon Cutting Celebrates PSE Solar Panel Installation at Community Action of Skagit County
Mount Vernon, WA — Community Action of Skagit County is thrilled to announce the successful installation of solar panels at their Mount Vernon Resource Center, thanks to a generous gift from the Puget Sound Energy Foundation (PSE).
Puget Sound Energy’s Green Power Solar Grants has funded numerous sustainable energy projects in Skagit County, with nearly $650,000 distributed to Skagit organizations over the last six rounds.Heather Mulligan, Manager of Customer Energy Renewable Programs at PSE, also commented, saying, “PSE is honored to partner with organizations like Community Action of Skagit and the critical work they do in Skagit County. The funding for this type of project comes from PSE customers who contribute to the Green Power Solar program in support of a more sustainable and environmentally responsible future.”This marks the second time that Community Action of Skagit County has been awarded with the Green Power Solar Grant since the program’s inception in 2017. The installation of solar panels will reduce energy costs and usage across both of their buildings at the Mount Vernon Resource Center by 50%. This translates to an annual savings of $8,000, which can now be redirected toward the organization’s critical mission.Bill Henkel, Executive Director at Community Action of Skagit County, expressed his gratitude, stating, “We can put these savings directly toward programs that help struggling Skagitonians. This is a significant leap toward our goal of fostering sustainable change in our community.”
Over the first decade of this green initiative, Community Action of Skagit County is projected to save a staggering $93,000. Looking ahead to the next two decades, the organization anticipates savings of approximately $233,000. These funds will directly benefit the programs aimed at assisting struggling individuals and families in Skagit County. For more information about Community Action of Skagit County and their mission, please visit www.CommunityActionSkagit.org.
